It's been a long and very tiring few days. I went to my very first Halloween party last week. It was actually on Halloween, so a school night, which made it all the more tiring, but it was also my very first fancy dress party. Well, not including Kathy Thompson's birthday party when I was 7, where my mum confused by the whole idea of fancy dress (they didn't have them in Pakistan), suggested that I go in my Pakistani clothes.
'But mum, you're supposed to go as something different to what you are!
''Tell them you're going as an Indian girl instead..'
Irony - not lost on my parents. Oh well, guess I stood out in a field of fairy princess types.Anyway, this time around, I went as an Olympic flame. My now short hair was easy enough to mould into a flame shape, and I wore a red top. Easy.
When challenged about the halloween nature of the costume, I replied that a flame is scary to those afraid of fire! Didn't quite work though, as half way through the night, the flame flopped. I ended up with a face full of fake blood to compensate instead, like you do.
I prefer Bonfire Night anyway. Fireworks rule.
Oh yeah, I got my hair cut really short now. Figured it was time for a change, as I've been keeping my hair the same length for a while due to the wedding. According to Claire, it's quite common for newly-wed women. Guess it's like the army - you have to get your hair cut short, otherwise they won't let you in. Or something.
